It's up to you

Glenn Thomas
Some days you will want to give up…persevere.
Some days you will want to leave…stay.
Some days you will want to not show up…go.
Because whether or not it’s meant for you, you will never know unless you fight through the struggle.
Fredrick Douglas once stated:”If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.”

The struggle is required; it’s mandatory. It’s the precursor to finding your passion in life; or even more so, your purpose. It is when we find the courage to speak truth to power, that we find our true selves - when we realize joy.

My purpose was revealed to me in life by working in a retail store. While stocking shelves of cereal, unloading boxes off of a truck at 3am in the morning and breaking down boxes and sweeping trash - that’s where my ah-hah moment happened...where my life was transformed. I found my passion and my purpose in the most unassuming, least likely place on earth; a retail store. I found what brought me joy; inspiring others to live their best lives by being the best version of themselves.

But this epiphany didn’t just come to me. It was a journey of years and years of working, sacrificing, changing jobs, good decisions, bad decisions, and failing and learning the whole way through. It’s a marathon folks; and if you don’t enjoy exercising your mind and your heart, it’s going to be a troubling experience. Your attitude will be your measure of how life treats you and, more importantly, how you treat life.

Charles Swindoll said it best, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% of how you respond.” Friends, Go be great!
